Your Google Business Profile Is Either Making You Money… Or Costing You Money

If You Don't Have a Digital Plan, You're Losing Money

Let’s rip the band-aid off right now.

Some of y’all spent $40,000 on a storefront renovation… then uploaded three blurry photos to your Google Business Profile that look like they were taken during a hostage negotiation.

And then wonder why the phone isn’t ringing.

Meanwhile, another business with decent branding, up-to-date information, good reviews, and a halfway-functional website is over there vacuuming up customers like a shop vac at a glitter factory.

Welcome to modern business.

People don’t “look businesses up” anymore.

They investigate you.

Before they call.

Before they visit.

Before they trust you with their money.

They Google you first.

And if your online presence looks abandoned, confusing, outdated, or sketchier than gas station sushi… they move on.

Fast.

Your Google Business Profile Is Your New First Impression

Your Google Business Profile isn’t some side project your nephew set up in 2019 and forgot about.

It is your digital storefront.

It’s the first thing people see when they search for:

  • “Best roofer near me”
  • “Marketing company in Shreveport”
  • “Coffee shop open now.”
  • “Who can fix my AC before I melt into the couch?”

And Google is paying attention to EVERYTHING:

  • Reviews
  • Photos
  • Activity
  • Responses
  • Accuracy
  • Posts
  • Website links
  • User engagement

You know who else is paying attention?

Your customers.

If your hours are wrong, your phone number is outdated, your last review response was from the Obama administration, and your website still says “Welcome to our NEW site!” from 2017… you’re losing business before you even knew you had a shot.

Your Website Shouldn’t Look Like It Was Built During the MySpace Era

Here’s the thing.

Your Google profile gets attention.

Your website closes the deal.

A good website builds trust.

A bad website builds suspicion.

If your website takes 14 seconds to load, has stock photos of people in headsets pretending to smile at spreadsheets, and looks like it was assembled with leftover Legos and broken dreams… customers notice.

Fast.

Your website should:

  • Load quickly
  • Work on mobile
  • Clearly explain what you do
  • Give people confidence
  • Make it stupid-easy to contact you
  • Actually convert visitors into customers

Because traffic means absolutely nothing if nobody takes action.

Congratulations on getting 3,000 website visits if all they did was leave confused.

And Now AI Search Is About To Flip The Entire Table Over

Here’s the part a lot of businesses still haven’t wrapped their heads around:

Search is changing RIGHT NOW.

Not “eventually.”

Not “someday.”

Now.

AI-powered search tools are already changing how people find businesses.

People are asking ChatGPT, Google AI, Siri, Alexa, and other AI tools questions like:

  • “Who’s the best marketing company near me?”
  • “Find a highly rated contractor in my area.”
  • “Who has the best reviews?”
  • “What business looks trustworthy?”

AI search is pulling from your digital footprint.

That means:

  • Your reviews matter more
  • Your website structure matters more
  • Your online authority matters more
  • Your business information consistency matters more
  • Your content matters more

Businesses that ignore this shift are about to get buried under companies that took digital visibility seriously.

This is no longer just “marketing.”

This is discoverability.

If AI can’t confidently figure out who you are, what you do, where you are, and why people trust you… You’re going to disappear from more searches than you realize.

Most Businesses Treat Their Online Presence Like An Old Storage Closet

They only think about it when something breaks.

Meanwhile, your competitors are actively:

  • Managing reviews
  • Posting updates
  • Improving SEO
  • Updating websites
  • Building authority
  • Creating content
  • Training Google and AI systems to trust their business

And trust matters now more than ever.

Google wants trustworthy businesses.

AI wants trustworthy businesses.

Customers DEFINITELY want trustworthy businesses.

The businesses winning online today are the ones consistently showing signs of life.

Turns out the internet likes businesses that appear alive. Weird concept.

Your Online Presence Should Be Working While You’re Sleeping

A properly managed Google Business Profile and a strong website become your 24/7 sales team.

They answer questions.

Generate leads.

Create visibility.

And make people feel comfortable before they ever speak to you.

That’s powerful.

Because at the end of the day, people do business with businesses they trust.

And in 2026, trust starts online.

If your digital presence is weak, outdated, or neglected, you’re probably losing customers to businesses that honestly may not even be better than you…

They just look better online.

And right now?

That’s enough to win.

It's hard to believe, but it's been over a year since I was in radio, and one of the greatest feelings has been realizing the relationships, friendships, and trust built over all those years didn’t end when I turned off the mic. If anything, they’ve grown stronger. It means more than I can put into words when groups still reach out and ask me to host their events. Whether it’s a fundraiser or a Mardi Gras bal, there’s something incredibly humbling about being trusted to help create the energy for moments that matter so much to people. Last night, I had the honor of helping to raise money for Evergreen Life Services. These aren’t just events on a calendar. For many organizations, it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year. Months of work, planning, and passion go into one evening, and they’re trusting YOU to help carry the tone, engage the crowd, keep the momentum moving, and make guests feel connected and entertained. That’s a responsibility I never take lightly. And honestly… it feeds my soul. I’ve always loved connecting with people, making them laugh, making them feel welcome, and helping create experiences people remember long after the lights go down. Radio allowed me to do that for years, but getting to continue doing it face-to-face at events across our region has been incredibly rewarding. In a lot of ways, it’s also become the heartbeat of what we’re building with Green Growth Group. At our core, Green Growth Group is about more than business development or marketing. It’s about building community. It’s about helping businesses, nonprofits, and organizations strengthen relationships, tell their stories, bring people together, and create meaningful connections that last. Because at the end of the day, growth happens through people. Through trust. Through relationships. Through showing up for your community consistently and authentically. That’s why every event means something to me. Every fundraiser that helps change lives. Every krewe celebration that keeps traditions alive. It’s all part of building something bigger than ourselves. To every group that has called, texted, tagged, referred, booked, or trusted me over this past year — thank you. You’ve reminded me that sometimes the platform changes, but the purpose doesn’t. And for that, I’m deeply grateful. — Erin “Bristol” Woods
